Urzulei and its area

Thousands of years ago, at the dawn of life on our planet, there was already a continent called Tyrrehnide. It was a vast continent, covered by lush and green flora, populated by strong men and wild animals. Suddenly, one night, for inexplicable reason, the ire of God was thrown on Tyrrehnide. The earth began to move, shaken by terrible tremors; the sea was deranged by an evil fury. The waves were so high they almost reached the sky and unluckily they crashed devastatingly on Tyrrehnide, rattling the coastlines, flooding the fertile inland plains. It seemed like as the end of the world!
Tyrrehnide was about to go under when God suddenly calmed his rage and said "Oh unhapp land! What a slaughter my ire has caused!" And since a small piece of land was still emerging, he placed his foot on it and was able to retrieve it from the sea, before the waters could swallow it. So was that of the great Tyrrehnide only a small footprint was left amid the endless waters: it was first named Icnussa, that actually means "footprint" and, only later on, Sardinia

Some technical info's

April 10th 2009

ATM. Unluckily the request of the Organizing Committee to have an ATM located in town has been denied. We are then sorry to inform that the nearest ATM are located in Lotzorai for who is arriving from the South and in Dorgali for who is arriving from the North.

Cell phone signal. We'd like to inform you that within the town of Urzulei there's an excellent signal for Vodafone and Wind customers. On the other side Tim signal has a partial area coverage, with an excellent signal in the eastern part of town but no signal in the western part, which is where the speleobar and the free camping area are located.

Beds. We have just posted additional phone numbers related to apartments, Bed & Breakfast, non organized campsites and agritourism.

It's meeting even for children

March 31st 2009

We would like to inform the speleo families that during the event (April 29th - 30th - May 1st - 2nd) a supervised playground will be activated. It's aimed at children aged respectively 3 to 5 years old and 6 to 10 years old: schedule will be between 9:00 and 17:00 and lunch could be provided.
The service will cost 2 €/h plus lunch (5 €, of course only for the kids who will lunch there). The service will be a closed number one, with no reservation (first come - first served based).

Also a special for kids only caving trip has been planned, aimed at children aged 6 to 14. We invite you to visit the Form section of the website and fill up the proper form. At the secretariat you will then have to confirm the reservation and complete the registration, by paying the related insurance policy (the SSI daily one) of 3 €. Parents could choose to drop their kids by the cave guides either in Urzulei or at the cave entrance. It will not be possible for the parents to attend the cave trip.
For more information please contact the Trip and Excursion Coordinator Tore Buschettu

We hear the engines roaring up...

March 4th 2009

We are outlining the program of the event and plan to post it soon online.

We'd like to remind everybody that has been activated a pre-registration form this way the event fee is discounted at € 15, down from the full fee of € 20, but only if you pay before hand, either via a bank wire transfer or via credit card. There's time only till April 15th, so hurry up!

Also, all youth 12 years old and younger do not pay any registration fee. Should a family group have more teens between 12 and 18 years old, only 2 out of 3 will have to pay.

The rooms available in town have sold out very fast. On the page Where to sleep we have posted a link to the Ogliastra B&B Association, so that more lodging possibilities are easily available, in the general area.

Aside from the free camping area, there will also be free bunk space available for people interested in using only their sleeping bags. Is at the Salone Mannorri: restrooms are available but it is 3 km out of town.

Last but not least we urge whoever is interested to present a report or a media show to contact as soon as possible the coordinator Riccardo De Luca, because the program is quite full and late comers may be cut off...

To the several people who ask information on the pre-events activities, we would like to remind that all excursions and cave trips are free and un-organized. Of course the Organizing Committee will very gladly answer any request and provide any available and useful information to help participants plan their days.

For reasons beyond our server, the Forum is temporarily not available, but the Blog is on and working..

All the forms are online

February 6th 2009

Since today all the registration and reservation forms are online: you can access them from the dedicated link on the right.

To help all the participants offset the big travel expenses, a pre-registration is available at a downsized cost of 15 € vs. a full fee of € 20, but only if paid in full in advance (either via a bank wire transfer or via credit card).
Please Note: A glitch in the connection of the form, happened on 4th and 5th February (i.e. before we posted this update). We would like to ask whoever had submitted the online forms about Excursions and Pre-registration on those days, to contact the Committee to verify the forms have been correctly received.
